Hello Everyone!
My name is Brendan Muggeridge, and I will be the director of St. Alban’s sleepaway camp, Camp Howland this summer. I am very excited to welcome your children to the first full summer of BGC activities at the camp!
Since purchasing the campground, we have been working hard to prepare it for a full summer of activities. We have cleared away a lot of brush to build a path to the lake, and have installed a number of docks at the lake for fishing, and boating. We have also replaced the windows on the main hall, applied for a septic system and have installed hydro poles with the hope of having power this summer.
We took two small groups of kids up to the camp in 2019 as a test run, and it went very well despite a lack of power and running water. Our plans for bigger groups, and a full summer of activities were put on hold by the Covid-19 pandemic, but we are very excited to put those plans into practice this coming summer!
The camp will run for six weeks throughout the summer. There will be weeks for both children and youths from St. Alban’s along with several of its satellite locations.
Children will be driven up to the camp in the St. Alban’s bus on Monday and get picked up on Friday. Though the bus will not be there the whole week, there will always be a car and a staff with a full driver’s license onsite in case of emergency.
We are also working on many different activities that we are very excited to share with our campers! Every day children will get to participate in a variety of different activities, including nature-based activities, activities in and around the lake, and traditional camp games.
They will also get to have campfires every night, and will participate in all necessary chores, such as cooking food on the fire or on camp stoves, washing dishes, and keeping the camp tidy. It should be a very busy and fun summer!
