Our Program Statement

Our Program Statement

Our program is implemented by our child care providers in a manner that promotes a sense of belonging, a sense of well-being, a sense of engagement, and a sense of self expression.

By doing this we;

  • Promote the health, safety, nutrition and well-being of the children by; being supportive positive role models; following policies and procedures; maintaining a safe play space; role modelling proper hand washing procedures; providing healthy food choices
  • Support positive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff by; establishing equal communication between staff and parents; being a positive role model; giving constructive feedback; working together
  • Encourage the children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate by; encouraging children to use their words and by acknowledging their feelings; encouraging turn taking and modelling good communication skills for them
  • Foster the children’s exploration, play and inquiry, through both child-initiated and adult supported experiences by; asking open-ended questions; encouraging child-led exploration and experimentation; encouraging them to be aware of their environment; conducting daily routines and observations
  • Plan for and creates positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported; through providing pictures, books, and visuals for the children to experience; communicating with children and their families; providing a welcoming environment; providing programs that are based on the children’s interests and developmental levels
  • Incorporate indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children; through observations and program plans and providing flexible daily routines based on the children’s (individual and group) needs
  • Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children by; communicating with parents through one on one (individual) meetings/interviews; group parent meetings; providing informative workshops; and encouraging day to day communication at drop off and pick up times
  • Involve local community partners and allow those partners to support the children, their families and staff by; going on field trips and community walks with the children; inviting community partners such as librarians, and community helpers (fire fighters, dentists, etc) to do workshops with the children and families; having community events such as potlucks, BBQ’s and Open Houses in which the community is invited; providing newsletters to all families and St. Alban’s members
  • Support staff, home child care providers or others who interact with the children in relation to continuous professional learning by; incorporating home experiences and family members with the child care to provide the children with new experiences; having support staff and resource consultants assist; having field placement students and volunteers as well as workshops

By documenting and reviewing the impact of the strategies set out in the statements above, our program and child care centre will ensure that children grow and are competent and capable, curious and rich in potential.

All staff, volunteers, students will review the program statement prior to interacting with children and at any time that the statement is modified.

Program Statement Implementation

All staff, students, and volunteers involved in caring for the children are aware of the expectations set above by St. Alban’s Boys and Girls Club Preschool.
The supervisor will meet with the staff, students and volunteers (as a group at staff meetings, team meetings and in individual meetings) to address how the program statement is to be implemented and how to best achieve the goals in each program statement. Staff, students and volunteers will also go to workshops and have brainstorming sessions with a pedagogical leader who can provide support, and continued training opportunities for them.

All staff (including new staff) will continuously be offered peer mentoring, direct review of the policies and procedures and formal feedback with the supervisor and training with our resource consultant, to improve all’s ability to meet the expectations and requirements.
